Getting IPTV Onto Android TV, Google TV and Nvidia Shield Boxes

The steps, in order

1. Have your login and our WhatsApp ready

   Open the activation message we sent on WhatsApp and keep it in front of you; it holds the server URL, username and password you will type in a moment. Keeping the chat open matters more than it sounds, because if the Play Store hides an app or a menu is worded oddly on your brand of set, one screenshot to us usually settles it faster than searching. Start with both the details and the chat open and the rest is short.

2. Open the Play Store, signed in

   Find the Play Store on the home screen, or under Apps if you are on Google TV. Make sure a Google account is signed in before you go further, since the store will let you look around without one and then refuse the install with a vague error. If none is signed in, add the account in Settings first.

3. Install a player

   In the store, look up TiViMate or IPTV Smarters. For a television rather than a tablet we lean toward TiViMate, whose grid guide is its whole reason for being and clearly the nicer living-room option. If you would rather run one app across mixed hardware at home, IPTV Smarters is the dependable pick, since it goes on almost anything and is free.

4. Sign in with your GofluxTV details

   TiViMate walks you through Add playlist and then Xtream Codes login; in IPTV Smarters the same thing reads as Login with Xtream Codes API. Whichever you use, you hand over one set of details: the server address, your username and your password from the WhatsApp message. Let it fetch the channel list and program guide, a minute or two the first time.

5. Organize favorites and set the guide

   This is the step that turns a wall of channels into a television you actually enjoy. Turn off the categories you will never open, mark the channels you watch as favorites, and set the language. In TiViMate this lives under Settings, then Playlists and TV guide, where you can also set the guide to refresh every twelve hours. Ten minutes here saves you scrolling for months.

6. Check playback and set the default player

   Open a busy channel and watch it for a minute to be sure it is sharp and steady. If it looks soft, confirm you opened the HD version rather than an SD one, and that the television is not upscaling a low output. In TiViMate the player choice sits under Settings, then Playback; leave it on the internal player with hardware decoding and only change a single channel if that one misbehaves.

7. Turn off anything that interrupts playback

   On modest boxes a busy channel competes with whatever else is running. In the Android TV settings, stop background apps you do not need, and if the box lets you, set the display output to match your television rather than leaving it on auto. On Google TV, turning off the recommendations row frees a little memory too. These small tidies keep a fast-moving stream from stuttering.

8. Send a screenshot if a step will not behave

   If a channel will not start, the guide stays empty, or an app is simply missing from your store, do not wrestle with it. Photograph the screen and message it to us; we can read most problems straight off the image and reply with the exact setting to change. If it turns out to be the device rather than the setup, we will tell you plainly and suggest the cheapest way around it.

When something is not right

The player is missing from the Play Store

A number of cheap boxes ship the phone version of Android, which conceals TV-only listings. Get around it by sideloading through Downloader, the same run as our Firestick guide. Unsure which build yours is on? Send the model and we will check it for you.

The guide is empty after login

Give that first download time to finish before you write it off, then run Update EPG from the settings. The guide comes with your login, so nothing separate needs pasting, but a big line-up simply takes a while to populate the first time. Still blank after a refresh and a restart? A cheap box keeps closing the app

Underpowered boxes with too little memory stutter or force-close. Clear the app cache, reboot the box from the mains rather than standby, and close anything running in the background. If it keeps happening, the box is the limit, not GofluxTV; a Chromecast with Google TV or an Nvidia Shield fixes it permanently and we are glad to advise before you spend.

A channel looks soft or keeps dropping

Check your connection speed first, because Android boxes quietly drop quality on a weak signal, and a wired connection or moving the router closer usually settles it. If just one channel is soft while the rest are crisp, that is the source rather than your box, so tell us which channel and we will check the feed from our end.
