Installing IPTV on an LG webOS Smart TV

The steps, in order

1. Have your login and our WhatsApp to hand

   Open the activation message we sent; you will need either the Xtream login or the M3U link from it depending on the app you choose below. Keep the WhatsApp chat open as you go. LG stores stock several similarly named players and it is easy to install the wrong one, so if you are unsure which is which, photograph the search results and we will point at the right icon before you commit.

2. Open the LG Content Store

   Press Home, open the LG Content Store, move across to Apps and use the search field. If the store asks you to sign in with an LG account, do that first, as some regions block installs until you have.

3. Install the right player

   Look up IPTV Smarters Player: it is free and takes the Xtream login with a complete guide, which makes it the reliable first pick on LG. Smart IPTV is a slimmer alternative some people favor once it is dialed in. Give a wide berth to anything called TiviMato or Tivimax, which are not TiViMate, and TiViMate has no LG build anyway. If two results look identical, send us the screen.

4. Sign in with your GofluxTV details

   In IPTV Smarters choose Login with Xtream Codes API and enter the username, password and server address, with the http:// and the port included. With Smart IPTV you instead send your M3U link to the MAC address the app displays, using siptv.app/mylist on a phone or laptop. Copy the MAC precisely; a single wrong character is the most common reason a list never appears.

5. Load, then organize favorites

   Once the app restarts it pulls in the full line-up with its built-in guide. The colored buttons on the LG remote handle favorites and the guide, and setting up a short favorites list now is what makes these televisions pleasant to live with. Hide the groups you never touch so the everyday list stays manageable.

6. Play a channel and confirm the quality

   Put on a channel you know is active and give it a minute. Steady picture means you are done; if it breaks up or plays sound over a black screen, that is a decoder setting rather than a dead feed, so switch the player to native or hardware decoding. Check you chose the HD copy too, as big line-ups carry both HD and SD.

7. Keep webOS lean for smoother playback

   Close players you are not using from the recent-apps view, because webOS keeps them in memory, and restart the set occasionally by unplugging it for ten seconds. On a busy channel this is the difference between a steady picture and an occasional stutter, especially on sets that are a few years old. A short favorites list helps here too, since the app has less to draw.

8. If a step misbehaves, send a screenshot

   A black screen with sound, a missing app, or a login that will not take are all things we see on LG regularly and can usually solve from one image. Rather than reinstalling blindly, photograph the screen and message us; we will tell you the single setting to change, and if a decoder needs switching or the app needs swapping, we will walk you through it.

When something is not right

A stream plays sound over a black screen

This is the decoder failing to agree, not a channel that has gone dead. Head into the app settings and move the player onto native or hardware decoding, or select the lower-bitrate version of the channel, which most sports feeds provide. If swapping the decoder does not fix it, name the channel and we will confirm the feed is fine.

The player you want is not in the store

LG rotates its catalog and pulls some apps in certain regions. Try IPTV Smarters Player first, as it is the most widely stocked; if it is absent, change the region in settings or ask us for a named alternative that is available where you live rather than guessing at the search results.

The app freezes after a webOS update

An occasional LG update leaves a player in a bad state. Reinstalling it and re-adding your login clears it, and because your account details never change, that takes only a couple of minutes. If it keeps happening after every update, send us the model and webOS version and we will check for a known issue.

The remote is slow moving through channels

webOS can feel sluggish on a very large list. Trimming the line-up to favorites and hiding unused groups makes the remote feel far quicker, because the app has less to draw. If the whole set is slow after a long uptime, a restart from the mains clears it; if it persists, tell us the model and we will check for a known issue.
